Our life is composed greatly from dreams, from the unconscious,
and they must be brought into connection with action.
They must be woven together.

Just realized why I titled it that. Because of Ghosts. Click on listen.

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” – Anais Nin

I think Jung said something about this too, more symbolically perhaps, that our life’s prime motivation is about discovering that for which we long for. The vision is the treasure we seek, the action the uncovering?

When I saw the title for your post in my RSS feed, I thought: “Nine Inch Nails? Now that’s a bit out of character for Owl…”
I was relieved to find this quote ;-) It’s a good one!

I like both Nin and Nine Inch Nails! The two CAN be appreciated by the same person.
Anaiis was a bad influence in my life for awhile. Whenever I was considering something sexually questionable (often – I was younger), I’d think, “Anaiis would do it.” And then I’d go ahead.

G and K, hi and good to see you.
What would Anaiis do? What a provocative, dangerous, fulfilling question. She was brutally honest and also she was a liar. Light, brave, beautiful, vain, intuitive, pathbreaking, dramaqueenish, all-around brilliant. How beautiful—lovingly self-aware, and true—is that bit that Anna posted? Not such a bad influence!
I do like NIN sometimes. The link above is to Trent Reznor’s new instrumental record which I like a lot. Has been my office soundtrack for writing this week.

Okay, all of this is fine and good, but one time the “what would Anaiis do?” was answered with “sleep with her dad.” I’ve never been able to get past that.

Uhg. Leave it to her to violate the ultimate taboo. I forgot about that somehow.
Why mess with yourself like that? And then fill it with intrigue and some kind of glamour. It’s somehow an affront to history and the species itself, to act as if we are bigger than a taboo that strong. I guess it’s impossible to know what it did to her exactly, but makes me second-guess the WWAD question.
Some people want to say that this part of her diaries is just one of her lies, but then who is doing the lying?
A friend who has been reading all the journals didn’t realize from the texts themselves that Anaiis had two husbands for so long. Because she was so open in some ways, it’s wild to imagine the deceit that also filled her daily life. One of the husbands supposedly never knew.
I guess the lying complicates everything, the minute I start trying to get inside her head. But I like the complication, I guess. Death of the Author is too easy. :)
