Shiva, the god of eroticism, is also the master of the method by which the virile force may be sublimated and transformed into a mental force, an intellectual power.

This method is called Yoga, and Shiva is the great yogi, the founder of Yoga….

Assuming the various postures of Yoga, Shiva creates the different varieties of beings… Then in the posture of realization (siddhasana) he reintegrates into himself all the universe which he has created.

  1. Divine eroticism and the destruction and recreation of the cosmos? Whooooo, this post is HAWT.

Goofiness aside, I’ve noticed that the energy I put into asana practice, or even determined pranayama, borrows from/translates/is same as good old fashioned erotic energy.

  2. Yes. No doubt.

For some, “creative energy” might be an easier way to approach this experience?

In the context of ashtanga, I often think about how my creative energy can channel outward, can generate relationships, can affect others. Also, it can express itself in spontaneous impulses to depart from the series, to shout, to dance. But in this practice in particular, I tend to re-channel that “creativity” and impulses toward connecting creatively with others into something that on the surface appears routenized and “uncreative.” That’s a kind of sublimation, and it can be powerful.

It can also illuminate strangeness, wonder and maybe transcendence within so-called familiarity.

  3. You know… these allusions you’ve been making remind me of a conversation I had with a girl I knew. During a moment in the middle of a dancing lesson, when something about “leading” and “following” was discussed, she said: “Ha! Women actually do the leading.” Prototypical male that I am, I responded with some sort of “Oh yeah? We’ll see about that!” response.

But I’ve thought about this over the past few years. Women do lead men through a lot of new territory. Many things that might seem beyond possibility are actually altogether do-able if you use feminine subtlety to avoid macho or closed reactions.

  4. wow, so much better than teilhard de chardin and his dumb ‘noosphere’. see you tomorrow:) you’ve probably already found out that hipster is hard to find, at least for me, around union square. unless kate spade is hipster?

  5. Carl, I see we are training you well…. It is part of the plan.

Yes EOR, it is a good thing I am sufficiently small to dodge giant shopping bags. Assaulted by purchases!!! Thankfully the Union Sq. tree is ablaze so I had good light for the obstacle course. Very DoubleDare. Though otherwise the walk back from Cafe Divine just now was divine. I love Grant St., always.

Could not resist a Chinatown firefly for someone who likes them.

Re: hipsters. I like Ritual Roasters and Farleys, but nothing in this zone appears anywhere near seedy enough for my workspace taste. So just broke down and bought in to the Hilton’s internet for sake of efficiency.

    Fourteennitetyfive!

Owl to service rep: Yes I am a sucker because I’m on the 19th floor and nothing else picks me up. Do it. Charge me. Do it! Ok. Thank you for making me a sucker.

Service person in Pittsburgh to Owl: Oh you are so sweet about it. Most people don’t even call to chat! Have a wonderful stay!

Owl: Thanks, darling. I know it’s not you. It’s them. They better give you dental.

  6. Kate Spade : Hipster :: Cafe Vesuvio : Beatnick

But that relies on a Silverlake definition of hipster, maybe.
And a Northbeach definition of Beatnick.

  7. You are so neighborhood :)

Don’t forget that the Yoga Action Squad sends the bad guys back to Silverlake.

www.myspace.com/yogaactionsquad, and a billion different sites you’ll find in a search.
