Some possible marks of a developed subtle body
(everyday life version)
● The arches of the feet are sweet little tensegrity sculptures.
● When she walks or stands, the pelvis tends toward neutral.
● When he speaks, the voice comes either from the pit of the belly (like Patthabi Jois) or resonantly from deep inside the head (like Richard Freeman).
● There is a self-possession of her sexual energy: she is not repressed and not rabid. She knows her power, and its limitations.
● Nice posture: his bearing is both grounded and light because the body is anchored from the center.
● She is not a mouth breather.
● The body may register or transmit a variety of emotions in a visible way.
● He uses the breath to change gears mentally, to self-soothe, to play with and release emotion, to get sleepy, to wake up, to govern his sexuality, to establish rapport with others and to communicate.

● The arches of my feet are still drooping.
● I tend to backward tilt.
● My voice comes from…my throat?.
● Uh?
● I scoop.
● I breathe through my mouth and I suspect I snore, too.
● Well, THAT is true. When I’m pissed off, everyone can read my body language easily.
● I still use my breath just to get oxygen into my lugs.
Looks like I’ve got a few years of yoga left :-D

Tensegrity sculptures!!!
Buckypedal?

That word is so good as an adjective that it deserves to be made in to a noun.
I dreamed of geodesic domes (from outer space, they landed at Big Sur and scientists were trying to blow them up), but a buckyped is the next level. Move over, St. Louis.
Susan, when you are pissed off, I can read your body language OVER THE INTERNET>>>>>>>>>>

Oh shit! That was a funny slip, huh?
Sorry. Don’t be mad at me. Either of you?

Dansko clogs solve for most of the list.

sounds like someone’s gunas are balancing!
Posted by: cody · Mar 27, 11:46 AM · #
wait!!! that’s not it. i guess i’ve gone to far and am creating mistakes.
gunas schmunas. i am talking about real experience. actually playing the edge where the body becomes as much electric pulse, as much breath, as physical. just making hydraulic- pneumatic system that lives inside the peritoneum/ pericardium come alive. it’s empirically accessible with deep, consistent, strong, intuitive practice.
these are just some side effects of working on that level. not methods for achieving anything.
you don’t go to a specialist for subtle body. it doesn’t seem to get unbalanced because in most people it’s not even awake. you go inside and work hard and smart, is all.
not about “balancing.” about researching. do it self.
i don’t believe in gunas any more than i believe in the four humors. ideal types. abstractions. god. does not correspond to my immediate experience.

Some concepts are especially anti-practical.

You don’t believe in VATA?
Holy smokes. I bought the clogs to help keep vata in order.
:-)

I believe in concepts when they make things interesting. (More subtle)
Not when they make things boring. (Less subtle)
Everyday dosha inquiry: increased attention to the ways that sensations inter-relate. Vata more as flashlight than as explanation.
Gunas/kleshas stuff: Ugh!
Subtle body is a concept for beginners, but ceases to be a concept with practice, eh? This is why I got worried. Not wanting to go backwards into concepts.
Though CP is right on in that “sattvic” is definitely a way to characterize this collection of qualities. I thought that too but didn’t want to say it earlier. :)

concepts are useful. attachment to concepts can be dangerous, though!
(I thought you liked chakras?)

Concepts are like my stock in trade. I am a concept junkie. Except for in yoga practice. Then they are a pain in my ass, especially the classification systems. Meh.
Maybe I like PHYSICAL chakras? As in: experienced nerve-clusters? (And who gave you that idea, anyway? I try to keep that kind of nonsense quiet!)

Yes, I see my power over the internet is ever increasing…I know you can feel my anger, but I’m working on you being able to feel the love. Sometimes my love might feel like anger, but it’s love all the same:)
Chakras are just silliness. We hold and feel things in different parts of our bodies, don’t get too attached to all the bullshit.

Let’s make all the concepts metaphors and similes. Problem solved!
