Camera Shy, Superbowl Sunday · 1 February 2009

Must post before Karen does something rash! I tried to film some actual ovoporn in honor the Superbowl and Seven Veils tradition. But this is how it started.... Oh well.

  1. I love it! LOL! The big white wall and white fridge. The black mat and top and red pants. Rob’s comment on your underwear.

It’s like a cheerful yoga version of “Cries and Whispers.”

  2. Oh NO! I have been able to avoid Ingmar Bergman perfectly until just last week. But given the theme of playing with death going on around here, I just finally caved and watched the Seventh Seal. I was sure it would give me apocalypse nightmares. But… it’s amazing and I love it. So I guess C&W is next….

The Editor was very kind to film this when he wanted to be sleeping, but yes he was fussy.

About the vid, I also made purna m, EPB, kapot and some vinyasas. Most of them I manage to flub embarrassingly but in the spirit of the last post do so while staying on the breath. Nice thing about flickr, you only get 90 seconds of moving image before they cut you off. That’s about a posture’s worth, I suppose.

  3. Can I be shallow and say I love your outfit? :-)

    Posted by: V · Feb 1, 12:16 PM · #

  4. Of course…

The top is by my friend Tereza for her brand Oxumwear. The leggings are $15 in the girls’ section at Macy’s.

  5. I wouldn’t be able to wear either these days, but maybe sometime in the short term future I’ll get my sh$t together and shed these pounds of fear.

  6. I dunno, I wonder… if you don’t have to get your shit together in order to do that. As if perfecting the willpower is a prerequisite. Maybe it’s more about letting go than being in control. (Mabye, though, this is not a useful distinction.)

For the record, the Editor is mad I chose what he deems an embarrassing, very bad vid.

  7. so sweet! I love it.

  8. Hmmm not really following. Would you mind if I e? Not that I make a secret out of this; I just don’t have the energy to talk about this publicly after the infamous ezboard tiny ashtanginis thread.

  9. Yes of course. I don’t know if I’ll have any wisdom… I was just thinking about the theme I worked over last spring or so, of moving more from intuition than from force of will. Getting things done sometimes seems to be more about setting my meta-codes/ subconscious habits than about really wanting something, willing it or muscling up to get it.

Just like some people think they have to be perfect before they can come to Mysore practice, you know? We are already perfect, so we just show up and practice to see what refinement comes.

  10. You have an eating disorder!

    LOL!

Just figured I’d get that out of the way so we can move on to more useful discussion.

    ;-)

  13. Superbowl of Yoga Sutras Sunday:

I “got” VC when I practiced on the beach in the tide zone. The slope on the hard sand (using Gravity to coax the process, as usual) and the soft landing was just enough to allow an exploration of that sticking point that takes the feet back down to where they started. It was at least 108 times easier than level attempts. My body seemed to learn all the on and off switches that allowed the tic to toc. It was relatively easy to transfer the innate body knowledge to the level shala floor. I found it to be one of those on/off things that after a certain amount of strength/flexibility the body just knows how and the mind needs to get out of the way – like the proverbial centipede with her one hundred feet.

  14. I think it’s a GREAT choice, like Joy said, just sweet.

  15. :-)

I may go to the beach at some point. Getting this feels like a combination of intelligence and stupidity. At this point I’ve built all the intelligence I can on the level of proprioception and muscle memory. Now I just need to be stupid and jump the chasm.

  16. oh man! I thought I posted a comment yesterday but wasn’t paying attention and only saw the preview. So this will not capture my first, true glee when seeing your fantastically cute video! I LOVE IT! The setting, the outfit (I agree with V- very nice, underwear and all), the handstands that are almost perfect, and especially the Editor’s comment. That’s my favorite part. Your handstands look so much like mine- I stick them the first go about 50% of the time, the rest seem to work after 2-4 tries. Yesterday I was leaning so hard on one hand that I actually thought, “I wonder if I could do a one-handed handstand”, but for the sake of the person next to me, I didn’t try it. If I had been in your kitchen, I might have!

Thank you for the video! It’s wonderful. You’re wonderful in your sassy red pants and super fantastic top.

  17. The underwear comment was funny. I love the Editor. Those pants look like Tereza’s too.

  18. Tereza is the only one who can get me out of my preferred threadbare yoga clothes (my favorite leggings are ski underwear from junior high). Her designs are beautiful and creative. http://oxumwear.com/

  19. Oh, that comment sounded kind of wrong. You know what I mean.

  20. LOL, I hadn’t noticed until you brought it up and I re-read it a couple of times!!! :-D

  21. There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
    What color her underwear is!
